Transitional Safeguarding focuses on safeguarding young people from adolescence into adulthood, recognising transition is a journey not an event, and every young person will experience this journey differently. This session will focus on transitional safeguarding and what that means for us locally in south west London.
About the speakers
Amanjit Sandhu, Social Worker from Kingston Council, graduated with a Distinction in a Masters in Social Work in 2011. She has practiced as a Social Worker since 2012. Amanjjit is currently working as a Safeguarding Adults Senior Social Worker for Adult Social Care. She is a qualified Best Interest Assessor and continue to actively practice in this area. A stage 1 Practice Educator for training Social Work students and assess Newly Qualified Social Workers in their first year of practice. Amanjit is also a qualified Coach and Mentor and currently mentoring Social Work apprentices, she is passionate about learning and development and supervise Social Workers in safeguarding practice. Her practice is underpinned by a humanistic approach that places value on human beings, culture and experiences.
Estelene Klaasen, Designated Safeguarding Lead for Croydon at NHS South West London, completed nursing studies at University of Western Cape (South Africa) and King’s College London. She has 29 years’ experience and her NHS service started in June 2000. She has worked at Acute Trusts including King’s College Hospital, National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, Croydon Health Services and joined the Clinical Commissioning Group in 2017.
As a Ward Matron she was passionate and committed to ensure that patients with dementia and learning disabilities were well supported and involved in their care; something she continues to champion. In her current role she is responsible for ensuring that providers are compliant with their responsibilities to safeguard vulnerable adults including overseeing quality assurance and is a proactive member of the Croydon Safeguarding Board. Most recently she has been involved in the transitional safeguarding task and finish commissioned by the Safeguarding Adults National Network (SANN).
