About the programme
The Expert Patients Programme aims to help you to improve your health and wellbeing and better manage your long-term condition through learning skills and techniques that you can use in your day-to-day life.
The course is run either in a face-to-face or virtual setting. For face-to-face courses it is run over 6 weekly 2.5 hour sessions and for virtual courses, it is run over 7 weekly 2.5 hour sessions. For the virtual course, the first session is an introduction to Microsoft Teams and general tech advice for participants.
It is led by tutors who manage their own long-term health conditions, with the help of the techniques taught on the course.
To join this programme, you must be aged 18 or above and live, work or be registered at a GP practice in the boroughs of Merton or Wandsworth.

- dealing with pain and fatigue
- dealing with difficult emotions
- planning and setting goals
- healthy eating and exercise
- communicating with family, friends and health care professionals
- finding other health services in the community
