About this proposal
At the moment, there are two different NHS sleep apnoea treatment services commissioned by NHS South West London.
In Richmond, some people receive their care from the Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) Service provided by a private provider the Sleeping Disorders Centre. Others along with residents in Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Sutton, and Wandsworth are seen by the service at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (St George’s).
We’re proposing to align NHS sleep apnoea care in Richmond to the rest of South West London. This would mean that in future Richmond residents would have the same options for sleep apnoea treatment as people in the other five boroughs. St George’s would become the sole provider commissioned in South West London, in addition to alternatives available under the NHS Choice Framework.
If you currently receive care for sleep apnoea from the Sleeping Disorders Centre, your care would transfer to St George’s in the future unless you make alternative arrangements.
Why we are asking for your feedback
We understand that the proposed change may have an impact on patients. We’d like to hear your views before a final decision is made.
We want to understand what people think works well about the current services; your views on the proposed change and its impact and what could help patients transfer to St George’s if this were to go ahead.
Your feedback will inform how sleep apnoea care is provided for Richmond residents and care across South West London in the future.

Next steps
After the engagement closes, we will analyse the feedback and prepare a report summarising what people have said. This report will be considered by NHS South West London senior officers before a final decision is made.
We will publish the report and decision on our website, explaining how people’s views were taken into account.
Once a decision is made, we will contact current patients and those on the waiting list to let them know about any changes to their care.
