A new purpose-built health centre has opened in Sleaford Street, supporting GP and community healthcare services for people living in Nine Elms, Battersea and the surrounding area.
The centre opened on 11 May 2026 and has been delivered as part of the Nine Elms Vauxhall Health Programme, which is helping to increase local NHS estate to enable services to expand capacity as the population grows.
Around £15 million has been invested in the new health centre, with the majority of the funding provided by Wandsworth Council through contributions collected from local developments.
The new health centre provides a modern home for Battersea Fields Practice’s Sleaford Street services, replacing its smaller branch surgery at Thessaly Road. The additional estate will give local NHS services more room to grow, supporting both existing patients and the increasing number of people moving into the area.
The wider Nine Elms Vauxhall Opportunity Area regeneration programme includes at least 18,500 new homes, with population growth expected to continue until 2041. The Sleaford Street development helps ensure local health services can support both existing and new communities in the area.
The new centre provides modern facilities for an extended range of primary care services, including face-to-face and virtual appointments, and enables community health providers to deliver services locally.
The delivery of Sleaford Street Health Centre has involved cooperation between NHS South West London, Wandsworth Council, Battersea Power Station, Peabody, NHS Property Services and Battersea Fields Practice.
