With England kicking off their bid for World Cup glory, south west Londoners are being urged to get jabbed ahead of meeting up with family and friends to watch the Three Lions in their remaining group games.
England launched their campaign in Qatar against Iran and leading local GP Dr Nicola Jones is calling on eligible fans to support the country’s defence against coronavirus by having the vaccine as soon as they are invited.
She is also reminding people that it is never too late to get vaccinated with staff standing by at centres across south west London to deliver the jab or answer any questions people may have.
Dr Jones said: “With football fans gathering round the television or at pubs and other venues with friends and family to cheer on England and Covid-19 circulating widely, I would urge anyone who has been invited for their latest booster dose to get it done as soon as possible.
“The vaccines have proved to be a real game-changer so please also remember that it is never too late to get jabbed – you’ll receive a warm and friendly welcome at our centres. It will mean that you reduce the chances of passing on Covid-19 to friends, family and your local community and you’re less likely to be as poorly yourself.”
You can have a seasonal booster dose (autumn booster) of the Covid-19 vaccine if you are:
- aged 50 or over
- pregnant
- aged 5 and over and at high risk from Covid-19 due to a health condition or a weakened immune system
- aged 5 and over and live with someone who has a weakened immune system
- aged 16 and over and a carer, either paid or unpaid
- living or working in a care home for older people
- a frontline health and social care worker
People eligible for a Covid-19 vaccination can make an appointment using the National Booking Service – the website also lists who can receive them. Alternatively, call 119.
