If you are unhappy or dissatisfied with the care you have received, you can make a formal complaint. We encourage you to feedback your experiences which can help us to improve services.
Every provider of NHS services in England has their own complaints procedure. You can contact your provider directly to make a complaint about the care you have received. They will investigate your complaint and formally respond to you in writing.
Complaints about hospital, mental health or community services
If you have a complaint about hospital, mental health or community services you must contact your provider to make a complaint. They will be responsible for investigating your complaint and responding to you.
Complaining to us
You can complain to us about
- Services that we provide
- The way an NHS service has been commissioned
- A commissioning decision made by us that has had a direct impact on you
- Primary care services (such as GPs, pharmacies, opticians and dentists)
You cannot complain to us about
- Hospital, mental health or community services (such as district nursing or sexual health)
- Complaints you have already made to a healthcare provider
How to make a complaint
Make a complaint now using our online formYour complaint should be made as soon as possible, and no later than a year after what you are unhappy about has occurred. You can make a complaint on behalf of someone else, as long as you have their permission.

All complaints are confidential. We will not share any information about you with any other organisation without your consent.
Independent review
If you are unhappy with the response we make to your complaint, you can contact the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman for an independent review of your case.
Your request must be made within twelve months of your complaint.
